Tristan Thompson suspended 25 games for violating NBA drug policy – 2024

The NBA has suspended Cleveland Cavaliers forward Tristan Thompson for 25 games for violating league drug policy, officials said Tuesday.

Thompson, 32, tested positive for performance enhancing ibutamoren and SARM LGD-4033, according to an NBA statement.

He will not be in uniform when the visiting Cavaliers take the floor Wednesday against the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Cavs said they “fully support” the NBA’s anti-drug programs and “are disappointed in the recent news surrounding Tristan Thompson.”

“His time away from game action will have an impact on our team,” according to a Cavs statement. “We stand behind Tristan and offer our support throughout this suspension period.”

During this suspension, Thompson can still practice and travel with the team. On game days, both home and away, he’ll allowed to be inside the arena up until two hours before tipoff, the team said.

Representatives for Thompson could not be immediately reached for comment Tuesday.

While Thompson has one championship ring, won in 2016 in his first stint in Cleveland, he’s perhaps better known as Khloé Kardashian’s former boyfriend and father of her two children.

The player’s lack of fidelity with Kardashian had been a long-running “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” story arc that continued into the family’s latest series on Hulu, “The Kardashians.”

In an episode of “The Kardashians” that aired in November, Thompson apologized to Kylie Jenner for the family drama he caused by cheating on her half-sister with her close pal Jordyn Woods.

“That wasn’t right and wasn’t smart, made it tough for you and Khloé because, at the end of the day, you have your best friend and then you have your sister, who you love more than anything else,” Thompson said.

“So it’s 100% on me. I want to say I’m sorry and I feel bad about it. The fact I came with my poor decisions and being a f—ing idiot and just being young and stupid, I want to say I’m sorry again for that.”

Thompson and the Cavs last played Monday, when he came off the bench to score 4 points in 21 minutes as Cleveland beat the Orlando Magic, 126-99.
