Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani suffers shoulder injury during Game 2 of the World Series – 2024

LOS ANGELES — Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani suffered a left shoulder injury Saturday during Game 2 of the World Series against the New York Yankees.

“He had a little left shoulder subluxation,” Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts said postgame. “We’re going to get some tests at some point tonight or tomorrow and we’ll know more in the next couple of days. But the strength was great, the range of motion good, so we’re encouraged.”

Ohtani slid hard into second base on a steal attempt in the bottom of the seventh and remained down before Los Angeles training staff came out to help him off the field.

He was taken to the locker room for evaluation. The Dodgers won 4-2 and have a 2-0 lead in the series.

Roberts said no decision has been made about whether Ohtani will play in Game 3, but would not rule him out for the remainder of the World Series.

“I’m not there,” he said. “I’m expecting him to be in the lineup.”

Ohtani is considered the best player in baseball. The NL MVP favorite hit .310 with 54 home runs, 130 RBI and 59 stolen bases this year. He is the first player in MLB history to record 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in one season.

In Game 1 — a dramatic walk-off grand slam win for the Dodgers in extra innings — Ohtani hit a double and scored a run.
