San Antonio Spurs’ coach Gregg Popovich suffers mild stroke – 2024


San Antonio Spurs’ coach Gregg Popovich suffered a stroke earlier this month, the team announced on Wednesday.

Popovich, 75, who has won five championships with the franchise, had a mild stroke on Nov. 2 at the team’s home arena, the Frost Bank Center, the team said on X.

“Popovich, who has already started a rehabilitation program, is expected to make a full recovery,” the team said. “At this point, a timeline for his return to the sidelines has not been determined.”

Popovich, one of the most successful coaches in the history of the NBA, has won titles with the Spurs in 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2014.

He’s been named “Coach of the Year” three times, in 2003, 2012 and 2014. He was also head coach for USA Basketball’s men’s team from 2017 to 2020, winning a gold medal in the 2020 Olympics.
